As we welcome the new school term, Sutherland House School also bids a warm welcome to the school's new Headteacher, Robbie Jones.
Robbie joined Autism East Midlands in January as Assistant Headteacher under former Headteacher Ann Stewart.
Ann has recently accepted a new role within Autism East Midlands as Director of Education, and Robbie was offered the role as Ann's replacement.
We spoke to Robbie about his experience and what he's looking forward to in his new role.
See his full statement below:
I am thrilled to take over the role as Headteacher at Sutherland House School and continue working with Ann Stewart who is now Director of Education for Autism East Midlands. I joined Sutherland House School as Assistant Headteacher in January and I have previously worked in many different school settings across different local authorities. Before joining AEM, I completed my MA in Autism with Sheffield Hallam University and I am just coming to the end of my National Professional Qualification in Headship. I am also a qualified SENCo and have always championed young people to ensure they get the education they deserve and need to reach their full potential.
Supporting autistic children and young people is my driving passion and I feel so lucky to come to work every day and make a positive difference to the outcomes of the pupils we work with. It was clear from when I first joined AEM the amount of care and support demonstrated by staff towards pupils. I feel so lucky to continue supporting the team to build on the already solid foundations of a good school.
I look forward to meeting parents/carers in person at our parent afternoon on Wednesday 1st May.
Robbie Jones, Headteacher
